The Union Budget is an exercise outlining fiscal policy and it lays down the blueprint of the government’s plans on using public resources to meet policy goals in the coming year. Considering the importance of the document it is imperative that the common man is brought into the conversations around the Budget and a platform is created where he can access viewpoints surrounding the matter. ABP provides such a platform that reaches out to the masses and gives voice to their opinions and concerns. The proposed Roundtable aims to leverage this platform to stimulate discussions on the upcoming Budget, which has gained a special place in India’s economic history after it was decided to be presented a month in advance and merged along with the Railway Budget in a stark departure from the colonial-era tradition of presenting the Budget on the last working day of February separately from the Railway Budget. The upcoming Budget also holds public interest, as it will present the government’s tax plans under the recently passed GST Bill in the post-demonetization era. The Roundtable will provide a common platform to viewpoints of the corporate sector and the expectations of the common man from the Budget.
