India’s National Competitiveness Forum (NCF) 2014 will assemble top private sector leaders, renowned thinkers and select government leaders to assess the state of the nation’s competitiveness, and explore pressing and emerging issues. The NCF 2014 would look at deliberating on:

Some of the pressing issues at the various levels of geography include preventing the demographic dividend to turn into demographic disaster, reducing India’s infrastructure deficit, better resource utilization, strengthening the financial system both from the point of access and vulnerability, etc.
- Technology and Competitiveness: Technology is widely considered to be a requisite part of every strategy and plays a major role for all the organizations in a unique way. For some its an enabler, for some to bring them par with their competitors and for many it plays the role where it takes the organizations ahead of the curve. Understanding how technology can drive competitiveness is important for the country and organisations to understand in order to pave way for the next innovation cycle.
- Enabling industrial development: The country’s industrial development has traditionally lagged behind service sector. Some of the pressing issues include dependent high energy and power deficits due to coal and energy linkage issues; land procurement problems for manufacturing sector, and poor state of doing business in India due to red-tapism etc. We would look at deliberating on issues that would define the next stage of industrial development.
- Realigning Institutions: Institutions are powerful mechanisms to bring about not just an economic but also a societal change. Various institutions have had a direct/indirect impact on economic growth. The institutional arrangements reflect priorities and mechanisms to address these. Realigning institutions deals with institutional reforms needed to address challenges to India’s growth and competitiveness.
- Competitiveness Decoder: This is a first of-its-kind, data based tool developed in order to visualize they key drivers of a nation’s competitiveness.
In order to address these pressing issues we must adopt a pro-growth strategy that is aimed at driving innovation in order to create shared value of economics and the society.
